Penerapan Brain Gym Exercise dan Memory Training terhadap Perubahan Fungsi Kognitif pada Lansia dengan Demensia

Demensia merupakan gangguan neurodegeneratif yang menjadi permasalahan kesehatan global karena menyebabkan penurunan fungsi kognitif progresif yang berdampak terhadap kemampuan lansia dalam melakukan aktivitas sehari-hari. Gangguan kognitif pada demensia ditandai dengan penurunan memori, orientasi, perhatian, dan kemampuan berpikir yang dapat menurunkan kualitas hidup. Salah satu pendekatan nonfarmakologis untuk mempertahankan fungsi kognitif adalah Brain Gym Exercise dan Memory Training melalui stimulasi aktivitas otak, koordinasi, konsentrasi, dan kemampuan mengingat. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui perubahan fungsi kognitif setelah pemberian Brain Gym Exercise dan Memory Training pada lansia dengan demensia. Studi kasus dilakukan pada seorang pasien lansia berusia 73 tahun dengan diagnosis demensia yang diberikan intervensi Brain Gym Exercise dan Memory Training sebanyak 12 sesi selama 4 minggu. Evaluasi fungsi kognitif dilakukan menggunakan Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) sebelum dan setelah intervensi. Hasil menunjukkan skor MMSE meningkat dari 14 sebelum intervensi yang termasuk kategori demensia sedang menjadi 23 setelah intervensi yang termasuk kategori demensia ringan. Brain Gym Exercise dan Memory Training menunjukkan perubahan positif terhadap fungsi kognitif lansia dengan demensia dan berpotensi diterapkan sebagai intervensi fisioterapi berbasis stimulasi kognitif yang praktis, noninvasif, serta dapat diintegrasikan dalam program rehabilitasi lansia.
